Job Overview:
  • Analyze product design, manufacturing processes, and production methods to implement best in class techniques to optimize process
  • Apply statistical and mathematical models to optimize efficiency, staffing requirements, and production standards
  • Responsible for evaluating new processes, developing design of experiments (DOE) and solving complex manufacturing issues
  • Optimize production layouts, equipment utilization, tools, and materials for efficiency and quality
  • Estimate the costs for production and product design changes
  • Develop, implement and maintain methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies
  • Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products
  • Estimates manufacturing cost, determines time standards and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines
  • Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • During new product development collaborate with Engineers, Quality, Supply Chain and Operations to ensure cost effective new product development into manufacturing
  • Lead/support process improvement initiatives
  • Introduce new equipment, products and processes to optimize operational efficiencies
  • Develop an understanding of current manufacturing processes and identify targets for improvement in transactional and operational efficiencies
  • Develop/update manufacturing work instructions, BOM’s and process routings
  • Provide daily IE/process support on manufacturing technical issues
  • Develop action plans to achieve short and long range efficiency goals, selection of new production methods, designs of production fixtures and methods to monitor efficiencies
  • Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, workflow and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
  • Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards
  • Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions
  • Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential
  • Conduct Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
  • Lead the design, creation and implementation of all assembly equipment and tooling
  • Lead the implementation of Production floor layouts
  • Facilitate final acceptance of all new assembly processes
  • Complete qualification and validation of equipment
Required Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of key metrics, VSM and RCPS techniques
  • Demonstrated experience with Lean, Six Sigma, 5-S and Continuous Process Improvement
  • Ability to manage multiple projects on a tight schedule
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong work ethic, desire to learn and be challenged, self driven, and motivated
  • Working knowledge of robotics highly desirable
  • Strong CAD and Microsoft Office skill sets
  • Effectively communicate at all levels of the corporation
Education and Experience:
  • BSIE required, MSIE desirable
  • 7+ years related work experience
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing, preferably in the automotive or robotics industry
  • Hands on experience in line balancing, time studies, and work instructions
