Description

We are now hiring a Full-time Director of Development at Shadowbox Live in Columbus Ohio.

Do you thrive in a creative environment working with like-minded people? Shadowbox Live (SBX Live) could be the place for you! Shadowbox Live, the nation’s largest resident theater ensemble, is seeking a Development Officer in Columbus, OH.

The successful candidate will have the drive, passion, and ability to secure contributed monetary support at all levels for one of the region’s most acclaimed arts organizations. The Development Officer will establish and implement a suite of comprehensive fundraising activities that includes major gifts, annual funds, grants, sponsorships, events, and stewardship.  This key staff member will work closely with the CEO, the Board of Trustees, and the Management Team to support and enhance relationships developed in support of SBX Live. The annual operating budget for Shadowbox is approximately $3.4 million. 35% of our annual budget comes from contributions of private donors, corporate gifts, and grants.

Typical Week in the life of the Director of Development:

  • Serve as the chief fundraising officer for SBX Live, planning and overseeing all development operations; developing and maintaining high-level relationships with Board members, donors, and key stakeholders; and facilitating long-standing relationships between SBX Live’s CEO and major funders.
  • Plan and direct annual and multiyear comprehensive funding campaigns that maintain and grow support for both ongoing programming and longer-term strategic goals.
  • Create compelling stories for grant and donor opportunities that showcase the power of Shadowbox and enrich our community.
  • Support and partner with Board and staff leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Work with the CEO and CFO, establish a development budget with clearly defined income goals; track, monitor and report on progress toward achieving those goals.
  • Work closely with the grants writer to ensure all applications and materials are compelling and submitted on time; ability to write, edit, and proofread portions of grant narratives as needed.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the grant process by monitoring timelines, compiling relevant materials and required data, tracking the use of restricted funds, developing evaluation tools as needed, and writing/filing final reports.
  • Cultivate and steward gifts from individuals by maintaining frequent and meaningful contact with current donors and developing relationships with new prospects.
  • Develop and execute a monthly calendar of stewardship activities, including special stewardship events for segmented donors’ groups.
  • Plan and execute two to four annual fund solicitations per year for segmented donor groups.
  • Review, update, and oversee the donor benefits program (VIP events, concierge service, ticket pre-sales, etc.) and ensure the appropriate recognition of donors at all levels.
  • Oversee and coordinate all development-related aspects of 365, SBX Live’s annual fundraising event.
  • Track and monitor the effectiveness and efficiency of each income strategy and adjust as needed to ensure that annual development goals are met.
  • Develop a high level of proficiency in the operations of the Patron Manager software system and maintain, with the highest level of accuracy and efficiency, the donor and prospect database.
  • Attend local/regional meetings and events as an advocate for and brand representative of SBX Live.

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum three years’ experience with a nonprofit organizations in a development capacity; arts and/or theatre; events experience preferable.
  • Ability to learn and master PatronManager (Salesforce), SBX Live’s Customer Relationship Management software, and to produce and analyze wealth screening reports (e.g., Wealth Engine).
  • Creative thinker with a passion for the arts and for the mission of SBX Live.
  • A great storyteller and communicator.
  • Flexible team player as well as a motivated independent worker.
  • Expertise in Excel, Word, and other office management tools.
  • Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and present donor and program data.
  • High degree of organization, analytical skills, attention to details, and an ability to manage multiple projects within required deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and a demonstrated ability to distill complex ideas into clear and compelling documents.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport, as well as build and maintain relationships with donors, patrons, volunteers, and staff.
  • A highly collaborative working style and an ability to lead, motivate, and inspire others to support the philanthropic goals of the organization.
  • A willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced, creative environment.
