Description

Sims Brothers Recycling in Marion, Ohio is currently seeking a full-time Transportation Manager to add to their team.

The transportation manager ensures that shipments into or out of the organization is handled quickly, safely, and within budget constraints. This includes oversight of transportation equipment and personnel operated by an organization. The manager will also coordinate with outside companies that provide freight services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze and negotiate the best rates and lanes for both internal and outside carriers in relation to different types of materials, types of equipment and locations.
  • Manage and develop a team of approximately 3 administrative associates to carry out daily tasks including: billing, invoicing, intercompany, scales and equipment requirements to ensure exceptional transportation services. 
  • Manage 30 driver fleets and oversee a team of approximately 3 transportation associates for dispatching, managing, and negotiating with outside contract carriers to efficiently load and unload material at yards, mills and plants.
  • Oversee the management and scheduling of company drivers and contract freight haulers.
  • Strategic planning and forecasting, profit analysis, appraise performance, resolving problems and addressing staff needs.
  • Collaborates with peers in operations, maintenance, accounting, HR, and senior management regarding cost, load status, equipment availability, safety compliance and any other factor that may impact customer service.
  • Work within various time and equipment constraints to meet critical business needs while measuring and identifying activities performed.
  • Ensure compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules and governmental regulations regarding DOT and FMSCA.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED
  • Minimum of 5 or more years of fleet management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Rimas, Samara & ELD programs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the scrap industry is preferred.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or board of directors.
  • Ability to interact clearly and effectively, in both written and oral communication, with supervisor, clients, staff, vendors, etc.
