Job Overview:

The Accounting Manager is a crucial addition to our Finance team. This person will have a deep understanding of GAAP and all accounting processes, with special attention to inventory functions of the vertically integrated business. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective flow of the finance department while working cross functionally with other department leads and managers to ensure smooth business operations. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department.
  • Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
  • Managing and overseeing inventory across the company and costing of inventory.
  • Coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audit.
  • Conduct detailed cost analysis for various projects and operations, including cultivation, processing, and distribution of cannabis products.
  • Oversee inventory control processes, tracking costs associated with raw materials and finished goods in compliance with state regulations.
  • Plan and coordinate travel to various company locations for audits, training sessions, or operational assessments.
  • Stay updated on state and federal regulations pertaining to cannabis accounting and finance, ensuring that all practices are compliant.
  • Work closely with the operations team to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve financial performance across locations.
  • Prepare for internal and external audits, ensuring all financial records and documents are accurate and readily available.
  • Provide training and support to finance staff in best practices related to accounting processes and compliance within the cannabis industry.
  • Communicate financial information effectively to stakeholders, including management and regulatory bodies, while maintaining transparency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in accounting or finance roles, 5-7 years, with at least 2-3 years in a managerial position and bonus for at least 1 year cost accounting experience.
  • Experience in the cannabis industry or a regulated industry is a plus.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations governing the cannabis industry, including tax laws and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics 365)
  • Strong Excel skills for financial modeling and analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess financial data and make informed recommendations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop finance staff.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and compliance.
  • Ability to adapt to changing regulations and industry standards in the evolving cannabis market.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the state to oversee operations, attend meetings, and conduct audits.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with various departments and external stakeholders.
  • Over the age of 21 and able to pass a federal background check.
